In this third session, Carl shares how angels bear witness to salvation, respond to God’s spoken Word, and execute judgment, citing examples from the Old and New Testament. Carl also shares personal testimonies illustrating angelic involvement in protection, guidance, and answered prayers. He stresses that we must oppose seeking ‘new revelations’ from angels, by exercising spiritual discernment and above all, reliance on Scripture to avoid deception. Not all angels have our best interests at heart. This is a crucial podcast, don’t miss it! Join Carl now…

We just left off with the concept of guardian angels is their scriptural support. I would suggest to you that there’s an inference in Luke chapter 12 verses 8 through 9 that children have angels watching over them and the scripture makes it plain. Also we’re going to discuss angels’ incredible strength, friend, and their ability to execute judgment. They are not to be taken lightly. In fact, one angel was mentioned in Numbers 14:37 and corroborated by the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 10:10 that he slew 185,000 Assyrians in one evening. Okay, so these angels, we respect the godly angels. Okay, the godly ones, the ones that are on our side, we respect them too. They are intimately involved in our lives. But what can we do, friend? What can we do? We can watch what we say, think, and do. Okay, we can speak God’s word forth and the angels hearken to the spoken word, the rhema word of God. And I’m going to give three examples to you of times where I have witnessed angels, either myself or some of my good friends, have had angelic encounters on the streets and on the roads and the byways as we continue this third session on the ministry of angels. But again, their involvement is to help and guide God’s will on this earth. And we know that they appear as physical beings, they appear as human beings, they take on the form of flesh on occasion. It talks about that in Hebrews. But testimonies are encouraging, but we don’t base our doctrine on testimonies, right? If an angel appears to you and says, hey, I know all 66 books are written in the Bible, but check this out, there’s one more. What are you going to do, Cheryl? What are you going to do to that angel? Are you going to entertain that angel? You’re going to rebuke it, amen? Let’s look at Luke 12, 8 through 9. Also I say unto you, whoever shall confess me before men, him shall the son of man also confess before the angels of God. But he that denies me, talking about Christ, before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
So, there’s a witness in the angelic realm of everybody who confesses Jesus as Lord. Whoa. Remember it talks about your name being written in the Lamb’s book of life. Who’s doing the writing? Angels listen carefully to our words and bear witness to salvation. Psalm 103 verse 20 says, bless the Lord, you his angels that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. Bless the Lord, all ye his hosts, you ministers of his that do his pleasure, hearkening unto the voice of his word. Friend, this Bible has never spoken to me once. However, if I choose to speak the word of God, angels are hearkening to the spoken word. Ooh, get a hold of that. If you don’t get anything else tonight, this is the scripture. This is the scripture. Psalm 103 verse 20. Jesus said, man does not live by bread alone, but by every spoken word of God. Matthew 4:4. Whenever you speak God’s word, whenever you command a demon to leave in Jesus name, whenever you speak to symptoms of sickness and disease, the implication is that the angels are involved in the ministry because they’re hearkening to the voice of the spoken command, right? Have we got some believers in here tonight? Good. I thought I had the wrong room for a minute. So, Hebrews 13:2 says, “be not forgetful to entertain strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” Interesting. I’m going to give two examples, possibly three, if I can remember them. Remember, it says you’re entertaining strangers. So, they’re going to appear as male or female, potentially people that you’re going to encounter in your life. And you may not know that they’re angels. We had a friend here, Harry Gifford. He used to come to some of our meetings. He came to some of our activating the spiritual gifts classes. He told me a story one time.
He said he was ministering on the street and he was, you know, he was doing his thing and just handing out some bread and handing out some money and just praying for people on his own. He wasn’t with a team or anything. He just felt impressed one day that God was telling him to do this. And he was getting late in the day. He was kind of tired. It’s like probably seven o’clock at night. He was about to wrap it up and he was thinking to himself, am I wasting my time out here? He went right up to this guy sitting right outside a gas station and he just gave him five dollars. And the man looked him in the eye and said, thank you, Harry. I really appreciate you today doing this. Now that man does not know Harry Gifford. Okay. That’s a complete stranger, a homeless guy. Now I said, what did he look like? He said, well, he looked quite healthy for a homeless person. Okay. We don’t know friends, the encouragement from that realm. Okay. We’re not looking for it. We’re not, I’m not saying we’re looking for any of this stuff, but if it happens, praise the Lord. Right. Another example is Pablo Sanchez, him and his wife. I used to go to prison ministry with several times for about a year and a half. I did it. We went to Sterling Delta. We went to the South side of the state and the West side of the state. And Pablo was just an awesome man of God. He was on fire. He was just bold. I mean, I looked up to him and he told me the story one time he was coming back from church one day that had the service. They got in their car. And then this is in the Brighton area. And if you know, Brighton is pretty open. There’s not many trees. It’s just, you know, vast.
He got into a bit of an argument with his wife about the future. He had an opportunity for a job. He wanted to go for it. His wife wasn’t sure about it. They had a bit of a heated discussion in the car. So they carried on driving. There was an awkward silence and they saw this hitchhiker on the road and he felt impressed to pick this guy up. Now, he doesn’t typically pick up hitchhikers, but even his wife said, you know, I think we should pick that guy up. He’s like, yeah, I think we should. I don’t want to do it, but I will. So we okay, brother, come on into the car. You know, where are you going? He didn’t say anything. They’re like, what’s up with him? He’s sitting in the back very quietly. And he says, you know, the Lord is going to show you what to do with that job. Don’t be upset. He will show you the way. What job? These guys never even heard what they’re talking about. This was outside the car, right? This is something that occurred before they picked him up. And now they’re like really spooked. They’re like, okay, yep. The Lord’s going to show us about the job. Amen. They carried on driving for about two or three minutes. He said, you know what? I need to get out here. And it’s like the middle of the freeway. What do you want to get out here for? There’s nothing here. He said, no, I need to get out now. Okay. Pulled over. They let him out. Now they were going the opposite direction of their home. So Pablo did a U-turn on this freeway. They carried on driving. They looked behind and there was no man whatsoever. Nobody. Now you can believe it if you want to friend, I believe it.
I ministered with that man. He was a man of integrity. Angels are around us and they appear as strangers, real human beings. They look like them anyway, but apparently, they can disappear as well. I’ll tell you one story myself. When I got saved in 1999 in Houston, two years later, I was working in an oil company on the West side of Houston. And it was right around a time when the Lord was kind of pushing me to talk to this lady who couldn’t conceive. She’d had a lot of difficulty conceiving and she really wanted a child. And her name was Patsy. She was South African and she was gung-ho man. This lady had some spunk. She would tell the bosses, you know what? I mean, I really liked her as well. It was just, she just had a lot of courage and she just came into my office one day and saw that I had a Bible in front of me and was like, I just can’t conceive. And the Lord, you know, I want a baby so bad. And I’ve been praying for 10 years and me and my husband have been trying intravenous treatments. And I know he can do it. She said out of her mouth, I know he can do it. And I was like, wow. Okay. So a long story short, I ended up praying with this lady and she conceived about 10 days later and she called her baby Christy, a little girl. And the Lord told me how to pray over that woman. And it was a powerful, powerful encounter. I’ll never forget it. But I said all of that to say this, right before I prayed for that woman, I was sitting at my computer desk.
My door is about 12 feet away. And out of the corner of my eye, I could see something one day. I was just typing at the desk, something very large leaned into the door. And I would say that this thing was about nine feet tall. I couldn’t, I did not look at it directly, but I could see this huge figure right by the door. As soon as I saw it, I turned my head and I saw a mere glimpse of something physical moved that way down the hallway. Now the hallways where I worked were as long as this hall. You could not escape as soon as you’re committed, right? Because if that guy ran, I could just see him. I could just go to the door. I’d see his back. I didn’t see anything when I looked, it was gone. However, right at that time is when I prayed for that young woman. And like I said, whenever there are births, whenever there are births, angels are involved, right? With Mary, obviously not a good comparison. She was immaculate conception. This is Christy, amen? But the point I’m making is that we see a pattern of protection, of healing, of angels interacting with us, amen? How many believe that’s possible? So Paul mentions a destroyer angel in 1 Corinthians 10.10 and cites the example of Numbers 14:37, when in one night, one angel slew 185,000 Syrians, dude. Are you kidding me? That’s severe. The Hebrew word for slew is ‘magba,’ which means stroke, brain hemorrhage or lesion. Just interesting. A word study. Some have contended that people, not all people, of course, some strokes that people have had could be divine judgment. Not saying they all are, of course. No, I’m not saying that. I’m saying in some instances it could be possible. The severity of this Assyrian judgment seemed to occur because Satan tried to oppose directly.
Israel’s trying to go in the promised land. Satan is stopping their advancement through the Assyrians. And lo and behold, something had to be done. King Herod was declared a god by the people and immediately an angel smote him because he took the glory of God for himself. Acts 12:23. Remember that story? God will not share his glory with anyone, friend. In your own life, it’s so important that we share the glory of God. Father, that promotion I got, thank you, Lord, that was you. Amen. You did that for me. So many cults today, especially the new age, encourage their followers to seek out a spirit guide for assistance in this life. This is very dangerous because these spirit guides are in fact demons or one of the evil angels that are trying to deceive man. Sometimes these witch readings or necromancy readings can be accurate because of familiar spirits. In Leviticus 19 and 31, it talks about familiar spirits. Spirits that have observed somebody in a lifetime and if they move on, the spirit has seen what you’ve done, right? So the witch will say, oh, remember when Uncle Frank visited Kentucky in 1928? They’re like, whoa, how do they know that? That must be God. No, friend, that is a counterfeit of the word of knowledge through evil, false, familiar spirits. Amen. You know I’m teaching the truth tonight, right? We’re never to commune with these angels or seek them out. We don’t go looking for them. We don’t talk to them. If you have a spirit guide appear to you as some of these new ages have, you’ll find that their lives go downhill pretty rapidly because what’s happening is they’re looking for agreement. They’re looking for entry into your life and if you voluntarily give entry into your life, there’s a consequence for that because you have authority, remember?
You have a physical body. You have authority. Spirits don’t have physical bodies. They don’t have authority, right? So, the only way they can get authority is through agreement because if I agree with this person and they are open to my suggestion, I can start controlling them, right? Test the spirits is what it says, amen? These spirits are the dear departed loved ones or are not ascended masters who crossed over to some mystical plane. Friend, the root of deception is that there is no heaven and there is no hell. All of our loved ones are merely surrounding us and watching over us. That’s the deception. Familiar spirits posing as dear departed loved ones, pretending to be something that they’re not. Hebrews 9:27 says, “it is appointed on a man once to die and then after this the judgment,” right? Not after this floating around Denver, you know, hanging out for a thousand years. So, this is merely a trick of the enemy to deceive us because the church’s apparent lack of power and gifting, some people have been propelled into the new age because they’re like, you know what? There’s got to be more to God than this. Friend, that’s all we have for you today and we will wrap up our final and fourth part tomorrow. Until tomorrow, good night, God bless, and remember to spread the good news.

Six Frequently Asked Questions:
1. Does the Bible teach that guardian angels exist?
Yes. While the term “guardian angel” is not explicitly used, Scripture gives strong inference that angels watch over individuals—especially children. Luke 12:8–9 suggests angelic awareness of those who confess Christ, and other passages show angels protecting, guiding, and observing believers.
2. Are angels incredibly strong according to Scripture?
Absolutely. The Bible describes angels as beings of great power and strength. For example, one angel slew 185,000 Assyrians in a single night (Numbers 14:37; 1 Corinthians 10:10). Angels carry out God’s judgments and should be regarded with reverence—not worship.
3. Do angels respond to the words we speak?
Yes. According to Psalm 103:20, angels “hearken unto the voice of God’s Word.” This means that when believers speak Scripture aloud, angels are empowered to act according to God’s will. They respond to God’s Word spoken in faith, not to human wishes or commands outside Scripture.
4. Can angels appear as human beings?
Yes. Hebrews 13:2 teaches that some have “entertained angels unaware,” meaning angels can appear in human form. Testimonies throughout Christian history also describe angelic encounters where the individuals appeared as ordinary people before suddenly vanishing.
5. Should Christians ever pray to or seek communication with angels?
No. Scripture is clear that believers should never pray to angels, seek angelic contact, or attempt to commune with “spirit guides.” Such practices open the door to deception, as fallen angels and familiar spirits often disguise themselves as helpful beings. Our prayers are directed to God alone in Jesus’ name.
6. How can believers avoid angelic or spiritual deception?
Christians must test the spirits (1 John 4:1), stay grounded in Scripture, and avoid practices like necromancy, spirit-guide communication, or new age teachings. Angels will never contradict God’s Word, preach “another gospel,” or bring new revelation outside Scripture. Any being that does so must be rebuked, not entertained.
