Friend, this is our second part of The Name of Jesus. There’s three types of church. There’s the militant church, the defeated church, and the triumphant church. Which one are you a part of? We’re going to get into this, friend. We’re also going to begin to touch upon some of miraculous testimonies that I have heard in person myself. Some even read in books, and I’ll cover one later, The Terror at Tenerife. I have an old copy of this testimony from the 70s, and it really is tragic. But it also lets us know the power of the name of Jesus in times of travail, when we really need rescue. And this gentleman called Norman Williams relied upon the name of Jesus for his rescue. Friend, don’t underestimate the power that is available in this name. As you join me now live in session at DHOP for part two. The three types of church. Militant, defeated, and triumphant. The militant church is still battling to try and gain victory over the devil and demon forces, who they don’t think is yet defeated. That’s the mindset of most people in Christianity. Oh no, the devil came. What am I going to do? Let me call pastor. He’s not available. Oh no, what am I going to do? Not saying that anybody in this room would even consider doing that. The joke is the pastor or the evangelist or the teacher has no more authority than you do.
Ephesians 4.11 says that the pastor, evangelist, and teacher, etc., have been raised up to equip the saints to do the work of the ministry. Exactly. So are you in this mindset of the militant church? Are you always warring against the devil in your head like he’s this big foe, right? It says he goes around as a roaring lion. It didn’t say he was a roaring lion. He’s pretending to be the roaring lion. But if you tell him to go, he’s got to go. If you say go devil, bye, he’ll just laugh at you. If you say in the name of Jesus, he’s got to obey you, right? We have to use the name. The defeated church are ignorant of the fact that they are seated in heavenly places. They’re supposed to be reigning in life, but they’re ignorant of the things that Jesus did, and so they’re ravaged by the enemy. They also give place to him, right? No, do not give place to the enemy in any way. If it’s unforgiveness, resentment, bitterness, hate, we’re giving place to him in our soul, right? He then has legal right to do something, right? Sowing and reaping. If we sow to sin, we will reap corruption in the flesh, amen? So we want to just chill. That’s what we want to do. We want to chill out in Jesus, live a life of peace. We will confront heresy when necessary, and if we have to be scared, we’ll say, Lord, I cast it on you. This is a really dodgy situation right now. I cast my care, and we put it in his hands, amen? We live a life of peace. That is default. The triumphant church understands their spiritual position of authority seated in heavenly places. Remember a few weeks ago, we talked about that, the fact that you’re up in heaven spiritually, not down here. You’re in heaven, right?
You know, and you exercise your authority when that authority is confronted by commanding in the name of Jesus. How many teenagers tested their parents’ authority growing up, amen? We’re going to see whether dad’s really going to carry out that threat of grounding me for two weeks. We’re going to test the boundaries, amen? No, none of you would ever think like that. We have to honor Christ and the authority he’s given us. What a tragedy it is for Jesus to give us so much power and authority and for us not to use it. Oh, what a risk he took on the church. I’m going to die, and then I’m going to pour out my blood, and then I’m going to pour out my spirit, and that this spirit is going to go into the entire world. It’s now up to you, friends, to cast out the demons, to heal the sick, to pray in new tongues. No, I’m just going to watch TV, right? We all watch TV. Okay, that was a personal convictive moment for me. The point I’m making is Jesus isn’t going around casting out demons. We’re doing it. He isn’t laying hands on the sick. We’re doing it because he’s the head. Heads don’t walk off and start laying hands on people, do they? They tell the arm to do it. They tell the leg to move here and here, and it’s time to go to Sister Suze and pray for her, amen? So I want you to come out of this mindset and enter the triumphant church mindset because once you know who you are in Christ and how to enforce it, then there’s peace, amen? Because you know as soon as you use that name, there’s going to be a reinforcement in the spirit to back up, right?
Okay, how do we live out our inheritance? By using the name of Jesus, we keep our foot on Satan’s face. It’s okay to say it, friends. It’s okay to say it. Let’s read 1 John 3, 8. Why did Jesus come? Anybody can read it. 1 John 3, 8. Why did Jesus come to the earth? He that commits sin is of the devil, for the devil sins from the beginning. For this was the purpose of the Son of God, that he might destroy the works of the devil. If you’re destroying the works of the devil, you’re doing Jesus’s will. Ooh, pastor, that sounds so confrontational. Friend, we are soldiers in Christ Jesus. You’re going to have some confrontation. If you want to make some advancement in the spirit, you’re going to have some kickback. Fact. How many have been living long enough as Christians to know what I’m telling you is true? Jesus has the keys of hell and death. They were both in Satan’s hands before the cross. Jesus is now an intercessor and a mediator, okay? Before the resurrection, there was no mediator, and there was no intercessor, but there now is. So we’re in a very privileged position. In the Old Testament, they were in a difficult position because Jesus had not yet died, right? Luke 10, 19 says, Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy. That word is dunamis, and this word is exousia. Dunamis and exousia, power and authority. The King James translated it power twice. The scribe didn’t stutter. No.
The point is you have power and authority. If a policeman goes into a bar to settle things down when there’s a fight, he pulls out his gun. He has power and he has a badge. He has authority as well. He has power and authority. He has both. If a thief comes in and he’s a big strong guy and he tries to rob my TV, he may have power, but he doesn’t have authority because it’s my house, right? But we’re going to get into a wrestling match. We’re going to see who’s going to win on the power front. Or we could use the name of Jesus. In that situation, if you feel threatened, use the name of Jesus. There’s many a testimony of people who have been confronted in dark alleys and they’ve used the name of Jesus. There has been amazing testimonies. You’re going to have to search them out on the internet for yourself. We have a host of heaven available to us, right? Angels, positive. Two-thirds angels are good. One-third bad. Hey, they’re on our team. Amen. We’re not commanding angels to do stuff, but God’s word never returns void, right? When we use the name of Jesus, there are going to be angelic forces in effect. Oh, that’s so hard to believe. Well, maybe it is. It’s the truth though. Remember, Jesus was in the garden. He said, I could have called on a legion of angels right now to take care of business, Peter. You’re chopping off ears, man. It could have been ended right now because when the angels turn up, that’s the end of it, okay? He is the Lord of Sabaoth. That word Sabaoth means hosts. He’s the Lord of hosts, of armies. Okay. I’m going to share some testimonies right now. I knew a friend in Houston and they were very young and they were going up Pike’s Peak. I’m trying to give examples of where the name of Jesus was used, okay? To encourage you that you need to use the name of Jesus if you’re in trouble. Romans 10, 13 says, you know the scripture, whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved, right? That word is sozo.
If you look it up in the Greek, its primary connotation means to deliver and protect. Whoa. Its primary connotation is to deliver and protect, right? We know that we’re saved and we know that when we call upon the name of the Lord, we shall be saved. Romans 10, 8, 9 and 10 makes that very clear, right? But there’s also a protection by shouting out his name. This lady was in Houston. She drove with her family on vacation at Pike’s Peak. This is about 20 years ago. Her dad wasn’t the best driver, okay? She said it herself. They’re going up Pike’s Peak, which is, you know, if anybody’s driven up there, you know, there’s a couple of turns there where it sort of hairs back on you. Anyway, so he lost control of the vehicle. It was right when they opened the road. So I want to say it was May stroke June. So there’s still a little bit of snow on the road. He was coming around one of these turns and the whole car started to slide off the side of the road. This little girl was about seven or eight years of age at the time and she just went, Jesus. Sure enough, that car just stopped and then shunted this way without any action from her dad right back onto the road. I’m telling you the truth. I believe this story. Amen. Had she not shouted out Jesus, don’t want to go there. Don’t want to go there. It’s so important that we use his name. Amen. I have a friend from Australia, Chris Harvey. One day we might get him here. He’s a real character. He talks a lot that might the whole time, you know, Chris Harvey, and this is hard for me to believe.
He was in a car with four people and he was driving in the outback in a very remote area. They were doing a crusade. They were driving through the night and they were trying to get to the next destination. Now these guys were driving to towards this bridge and there was a one lane bridge. For some reason, the guy who was driving got sort of carried away in the conversation. He kept looking towards the passenger here. Sort of like doing this, doing this. Chris is sitting in the back going, is this guy seeing this car that’s coming towards us right now? The driver hadn’t noticed it. Okay. He’s doing this. Oh yeah. And you know, God did this and God did that. He did not see the vehicle whatsoever. As God is my witness. This is what he said. He shouted out the name of Jesus. And before he knew it, that car was behind them. In other words, it passed through them on a one lane highway where there’s a bridge on either side with fences. In other words, there’s no escape. You couldn’t dive off to the left or the right. It’s just, we’re going down this bridge. For some reason, the other guy didn’t see them at all. Don’t know why. Maybe the lights weren’t working. He just shouted out the name. Amen. I told you it’d be hard to believe that one. How many believe it’s possible? Amen brother. Terror at Tenerife.
This is a very difficult story and you may have heard of it. It’s from a gentleman called Norman Williams. And in 1977, he was on a plane in Tenerife, which is an island not too far away from Spain. It’s also off the coast of Africa. But the bottom line is it was very foggy that morning. He was on a KLM flight. Okay. Very foggy. He didn’t feel good about it. Now, before he left for vacation, his mother was a Pentecostal lady. And he said, mom, I’m going to go on vacation for two weeks. She grabbed his hand and said, Oh, Norman, let me pray for you, son. He was like, she never does that. So she prayed for about 30 minutes and then she said, okay, you’re okay to go now. So he’s like, man, that’s kind of weird. So he was a nominal believer. He wasn’t spirit filled at the time. So he was sort of like, yeah, I’m, you know, my mom’s kind of crazy, but I love her and I’ll just go with it. Amen. Very tragic story. So he was full of fuel. Okay. The plane was full of fuel. How many know that when you take off, you’ve got the most fuel. It’s in the wings. Both planes were due to take off. The KLM plane did not see the other plane. They had been cleared for takeoff. The other plane thought they were due for takeoff and lo and behold, they collided. Okay. The death toll was horrific. Okay. But let me tell you this. Norman Williams was seated in the plane, right by the wings, right by the fuel. He was looking forward and he saw a fireball come down the aisle. It just exploded. And he could see literally the skin melt off people’s faces while it was coming up. He said out of his mouth, I’m standing on the word of God. I’m standing on the name of Jesus right now.
