Friend, I want to welcome you to a new series and that would be the covenants of God. Now there’s an authority transfer that took place. It started in the garden of Eden, right? Adam fell and a partial transfer of authority went to Satan. Satan had it because when he tempted Christ he offered in the kingdoms of this world But Jesus did not bow down and friend there was an authority transfer you need to be aware of but most of all You need to know that that authority is in your possession now so that you have authority over the evil one You are destroying the works of the enemy just as Jesus Christ did but if you don’t believe it you won’t enforce it And that’s the key. How did God introduce himself into the earth? He did it through a series of covenants And we’re going to explore those covenants and finally discuss the one that means the most to you So let’s join me now live in session. The covenants of God we’re going to talk about that the covenants of god. What does it mean to have a covenant? It’s an old term and we don’t always Understand it. There are many seasoned believers in here who could probably preach this better than me But this is what came up in my spirit is talk about covenant and the importance of it. Amen.
What exactly does it mean why did God introduce this concept in the first place? How does our understanding of the benefits of each scriptural covenant in the Old Testament impact our understanding in the New Testament? Because the word testament means what it means covenant. It means the bonding mutual relationship that god decided to cut with mankind Starting with the mosaic law that was fulfilled in Jesus Christ because we can’t do that law We can’t do all 613 commandments, right? Okay, it’s literally impossible and it was meant to fail because our own righteousness is filthy rags in god’s sight Amen, we can’t do it by ourselves folks. All right, but god’s standards are very high Now god has cut several covenants in the Old Testament We’ll talk about it But are you aware that he has cut covenant with you as well? And there are stipulations in the covenant In other words if you do this I’ll do this and it’s a mutual binding relationship All right, but we need to know what is in our covenant We need to know what is in the actual written terms of understanding Because if we don’t know the terms of the covenant, we can’t abide in it. Amen. So what does it mean? What does a strange term mean? Well God established a mutually binding relationship with mankind Why did he do that? Because he isn’t an oppressor. He’s not a usurper Okay, he doesn’t just come in and do stuff. Okay with our complicit agreement, right? That’s why it says in scripture. We must ask seek and knock that’s why he says you must pray All right, because he’s not going to just come in and do the stuff because he honors our will. Amen Now I’m not talking about rotating the sun and keeping the planets in place.
He’s doing some stuff. Amen All right, he’s doing some stuff He made sure the coffee was warm enough. Amen He made sure that the that Eric came and gave us a heater and he’s like I’m worried tonight about d hot brother that they May be too cold so I shall bring my own heater. Amen. Praise god for Eric, you know And so he brought the heater so god’s taking care of us but in the conditional covenants It’s about if you will then I will if you will then I will And what’s the most prominent covenant in popular culture? That is marriage, right? We go down the altar we we say some vows this is what we’re going to do This is what you’re going to do We’re going to put the rings on amen, and we’re going to walk off into the sunset happily ever after. Amen. That’s how it works Okay But there’s some there’s some There’s some character change opportunities that occur during the marriage covenant. Amen Mainly on the man’s side. Amen, but so there’s two of eight covenants of the bible that are conditional now get this Two of the eight covenants are conditional but the remaining six are unconditional and that’s powerful That means that it doesn’t have anything to do with us. All we have to do is believe Unfortunately, the two covenants that God cut with man that are conditional Man screwed up. Okay That’s how it goes So starting with Adam, there’s the Adamic covenant There were four curses placed in the garden because of disobedience, right? The woman was cursed the man was cursed the earth was cursed and so was the serpent.
Then we have the Noah-dic covenant Where he said go forth and repopulate the earth right go forth and fill it up Amen, so then we have the Abrahamic covenant very very famous. I can’t cover all these covenants tonight I’m just doing a drive by I’m just doing a fly by okay But he said I would bless those that bless you Abraham. Look at to the stars So shall the number of your seed be he started to get a vision of victory for his life You will have the land from the river Nile all the way up to the northern parts of even turkey This is the land promised to Israel, which has not yet been Appropriated right? They’re still warring over that area. Israel is the size of new jersey right now all right, 153 miles from north to south but they were promised from the river Nile all the way to turkey That’s the promise that was made by God. And so that’s the land covenant. Then we have the Davidic covenant Jesus said through your seed David I will make an everlasting covenant and I will bring myself through your seed and I will redeem mankind. Amen Thank god he did that and then we have the new covenant Which is something that some people are getting excited about amen, and it’s the new testament and it’s the epistles in particular The epistles are not the cousins of the apostles. The epistles are letters to the churches. Amen Oh brother.
Michael is here tonight. Amen So They are promises to us Understanding what Christ won for us and as we appropriate them personally will be more victorious. Amen So right at the beginning god said hey, you know, here it is Here’s the land god gave Adam a management position But he ended up being you know a worker bee because he didn’t listen and there were seven promises He was supposed to tend the garden But then it becomes cursed and now he’s going to dig and sow and reap and all these other things, right? Then God said hey, there’s 613 commandments, by the way, not just 10 that were given by god for man to obey and oh the burden was just too large. It was too much Amen, we just couldn’t do it all and that’s true. It was never meant to succeed It was meant to fail because it was the schoolmaster that brought us to Christ. Amen God set a standard we couldn’t meet and then he’s like, you know what I’m gonna bring my son He’s going to obey the law fulfill it he’s going to sacrifice himself take sin upon himself be resurrected and then You will be righteous by the son living on the inside of you. Amen Come on So these are unconditional there are no conditions Two of them were conditional. All right, the good news is with unconditional covenants. They’re going to happen period it’s coming It’s coming. All right and you know Saul was a king and then it came to David and it’s almost like David was like a backup plan because Saul failed but oh No, god knew this was going to happen in advance and he saw the love that David had in his heart that he was a man after god and why was he a man after god?
Because he was a worshiper deep down and he was quick to repent. Amen. You know David was in the temple going lord. I’ve messed up. I’m, sorry, you know, he really loved god He worshiped him. That is our attitude friends. We want to have a David spirit. Amen That’s the truth if you do some research You’ll find that the Hebraic act of a covenant has nine steps and being the engineer that I am Unfortunately, you’re gonna have to go through every step piece by piece Okay Step one take off your robe. No, not literally. We’re not going to do that. But here take off your robe a robe represents the person right? There’s two guys here. I love you. You love me We’re going to cut covenant. Jesus gave you a robe of righteousness and a garment of salvation You gave him your garment of sin and in return he gave you the garment of salvation and the robe of righteousness Thank you Step two take off your belt a belt holds weapons and represents strength Jesus gave you weapons of warfare. Amen and an armor of God and authority over principalities and powers If you enforce your authority if you do not enforce your authority, it’s equivalent to none whatsoever true most parents know that Authority will be tested. Yes. Those boundaries will be tested. Amen And we’re going to see whether you really believe that parent or not.
Okay, and uh, I’ve tested them So I’m speaking about myself step three Cutting covenant now check this out an animal is split down the middle They would walk through the animal and this occurred with Abraham and god in particular Each half of the dead animal represents the person and they would walk in a figure of eight And then they would say god do to me and more if I ever try to break this covenant do what split me in half That’s what that means Wow pastor, this is kind of gross dude Listen, this is how god did it. Okay. This is how he cut covenant Then the palms are cut and the blood is intermingled Okay We put off the old man and we put on the new man and swear allegiance to Jesus. Amen We’ve mingled the blood of Jesus with our own blood so that our blood is no longer stained with sin. Amen These are the things that occurred when God cut covenant with you Well, when did he do that when you received him friend when you confess your sin you repented you received him into your heart That is when he engaged in covenant with you. Although the covenant was cut 2000 years ago as far as he’s concerned Step five an exchange of names occurred each person took the other person’s last name in revelation 2:17, it says your name now check the scripture out guys If you’ve never read it “your name is written in white stone.”
You have a new name in Christ Jesus, do you know that when you were saved you had a new name and it says he will find it out for himself It’s your job to find out what your new name is One day it will be revealed to you. I believe when we reach heaven. He will say this is your name your new name Number six make a scar as a permanent testimony of the covenant They would make a scar of their choosing whether it was on their arm or their leg They would both make that scar and then they would rub ash into it and they would say hey, this is the scar This is the remembrance of the covenant that we made. All right. This is a solemn vow This is not something to go into haphazardly. Amen And we did that with Christ. We said lord we trust you with our lives We don’t know where we’re going yet, but we know that you’re going to lead us. All right And there’s an emphatic trust in that And then step seven gives terms of the covenant everything I own is yours and everything you own is mine How many know that that may not be a sweet deal for one person? right If the wealthy man comes and says I want to cut covenant with you. You’re like wow, that sounds great What do you have to offer me sir a lot of debt?
But that’s what Jesus did for us friend. He was the wealthy man. He cut covenant for us. He cut covenant with us And so he exchanged his wealth For our debt we were debtors to him because we were debtors because of sin and he said no son daughter I’ve covered it and you are no longer in debt to me because of your sin. Amen He was the wealthy man who came and we are so grateful And what do we do then step eight we memorialize did I say that right memorialize? Uh the meal okay in this case We are going to take communion tonight symbolic of the covenant that Christ made with us. We’re going to take communion We got it right there But we do it in memorial of the covenant that he cut with us that he gave his blood and he gave his body Amen, and we remember that event. That’s what we’re doing with communion And then step nine we plant a memorial.
All right, some people would put a stone down and say hey This is where we cut the covenant But we do it by reminding ourselves every day of the promises and terms in it That’s how we memorialize it. We say lord. These are the promises you made to me and I’m going to stand on them Amen, he says remember me and remind me of the promises that I have made to you It’s our job to do that father. You said you supply all my needs. I have a need now I’m standing on your promise and I believe I receive that is coming to pass. Amen So what are the terms of the covenant the holy bible and the New Testament in particular reveal the precise terms of the covenant and Benefits of what Jesus the testator did for us on the cross Friend, we’ll pick it up tomorrow regarding this exciting covenant that god made with you Until tomorrow good night. God bless and remember to spread the good news.

Six Frequently Asked Questions:
1. What is a covenant in the biblical context?
A covenant in the Bible is a sacred, binding agreement between God and mankind. It involves promises, terms, and conditions, where God initiates a relationship with His people, offering blessings in exchange for their faith and obedience. The concept of covenant is foundational to understanding God’s dealings with humanity, both in the Old and New Testaments.
2. What does it mean that God has made both conditional and unconditional covenants?
In the Bible, some covenants are conditional, meaning that God’s promises are dependent on human actions or obedience (e.g., the Mosaic Covenant). If the people keep their part of the agreement, God will fulfill His promises. However, many of God’s covenants are unconditional, meaning they are not dependent on human behavior but are guaranteed by God’s faithfulness (e.g., the Abrahamic Covenant, the Davidic Covenant). These unconditional covenants will be fulfilled regardless of human actions.
3. What are the major covenants God made in the Old Testament?
Some of the most important covenants in the Old Testament include:
- The Adamic Covenant (Genesis 3): God made a covenant with Adam after the fall, outlining the curses and the promise of redemption.
- The Noahic Covenant (Genesis 9): After the flood, God promised never to destroy the earth with water again.
- The Abrahamic Covenant (Genesis 12, 15, 17): God promised Abraham descendants as numerous as the stars, the land from the Nile to Turkey, and blessings to those who bless Israel.
- The Mosaic Covenant (Exodus 19-24): God gave the Israelite’s the Law, including the Ten Commandments, which they were to obey to receive His blessings.
- The Davidic Covenant (2 Samuel 7): God promised David that his descendants would rule forever, which was ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
4. How do the Old Testament covenants relate to the New Testament?
The Old Testament covenants set the stage for the New Testament and point to Jesus Christ, who fulfilled the law and established the New Covenant. For example, the Mosaic Covenant was impossible for humanity to fully keep, revealing our need for a Savior. Jesus Christ, through His life, death, and resurrection, fulfilled the Law and provided a new way for believers to enter into covenant with God. The New Covenant is one of grace, forgiveness, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
5. What are the terms of the New Covenant with believers?
The New Covenant (established through Jesus Christ) is an unconditional covenant based on grace. The key terms are:
- Jesus, the testator, shed His blood for the forgiveness of sins (Luke 22:20).
- Believers receive salvation and eternal life by faith in Christ (John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-9).
- Believers are empowered by the Holy Spirit to live according to God’s will (Romans 8:11).
- There is a promise of a personal relationship with God, where His law is written on believers’ hearts (Jeremiah 31:33-34, Hebrews 8:10).
- God will never break His covenant, and those who believe in Jesus will have access to all of God’s promises.
6. Why is understanding the covenants important for Christians today?
Understanding the covenants helps Christians grasp the full scope of God’s plan for humanity. It illuminates God’s promises, His faithfulness, and His desire for a relationship with His people. By recognizing the various covenants, believers can appreciate the depth of God’s love, the reason Jesus had to come, and the authority they now have in Christ through the New Covenant. It strengthens faith, encourages obedience, and motivates Christians to live in line with the terms of their covenant relationship with God.
