Tower of Babel: Gateway to the gods

Carl is a biblical scholar, minister, husband, father and life coach. In his mid-twenties he had a powerful encounter with God and saw miraculous healings as a result. He passionately shares these stories and empowers others to fulfill their God-given potential.

This article was recently featured in the April Edition of the Prophecy Watchers magazine.

The tower of Babel is steeped in legend but its existence is verified by the Holy Writ. Ultimately, it’s a symbol of God defying disobedience and pride. The original Tower of Babel was probably constructed prior to 4000 BC, when the arts and sciences had developed to such a degree as to contemplate building a city, and especially a tower “whose top will reach into heaven” (11:4). Nimrod, Son of Cush, grandson of Ham and great grandson of Noah, was the founder of the four oldest cities in the world, namely, Babel, Erech, Accad and Calneh (Gen 10:10).

The Historian Josephus claims, that Nimrod, persuaded the people to ascribe their happiness to him rather than God, seeking worship for himself. Nimrod was indeed the founder of all false religions, still in existence, to this day. The Hebrew word balal, means “confuse” and provides useful wordplay that stresses God’s confusing of the builders’ languages and His scattering of them throughout the earth, as told by the Tower of Babel account (Gen. 11:1-9). The word, Babel derives ultimately from an Akkadian word that means “gateway to God.” In the pursuit of accessing God’s throne, Nimrod became something else entirely, changing his biology forever, as we’ll soon discover. Does the meaning of the word Babel, reveal Nimrod’s intent all along? Was he trying to build a gateway to God, for revenge or usurpation?

Tower of Babel (circa 4000 BC)

Construction of the Tower

Both Assyrian and Babylonian kings greatly prided themselves upon the height of their temples and boasted of having their tops ‘as high as heaven.’ The Jews in Babylonian captivity (607-586 BC), were witness to these gigantic towers (or ziggurats) all over Babylon. Chief among them was the Temple of Belus, described by the Greek historian Herodotus as a temple of great extent and magnificence, erected by the Babylonians for their chief god Belus. In fact, the treasures Nebuchadnezzar brought from Jerusalem were laid up in this very temple (2 Chr. 36:7). However, these ziggurats were far smaller in stature than the original tower of Babel, which was more likely fashioned after the Canaanite watchtower, rather than a trapezoid or pyramid, as ziggurats were.

It’s well known within the occult, that trapezoids attract demonic energy. They can also be found on the back of the US dollar bill, and within masonic temples, which model their altars in the shape of a trapezoid or pyramid.

A trapezoid on the back of the one dollar bill, with Annuit Coeptis – A Latin term meaning ‘providence favors our undertakings’ a moto suggested by Charles Thomson (Founding Father)

The purpose of the Tower of Babel was for humanity to ‘make a name for itself,’ but was Nimrod (their despotic leader), in cahoots with dark forces when he constructed this rebellious edifice? Let us read about this tower in, Genesis 11:1–9, (my commentary alongside):

And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.”
– Genesis 11:1-3

Because stone was not available in the region or due to inferior engineering capabilities, brick was used instead of stone. Notice that man makes brick but God makes stone. In fact, the imagery of Christ the Rock destroying the kingdoms of this world is mentioned in Daniel chapter two. The mortar was no doubt bitumen, which could’ve been made from tar pits in the vicinity.

And they said, go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.”
– Genesis 11:4-5

The Tower of Babel nears completion

What was the intent of reaching a tower so high, even to ‘the heaven?’ Were the builders trying to overthrow God or attempting to retaliate for the destruction of their forefathers, in Noah’s flood? By seeking to build a tower of ‘great height’ Nimrod, and his followers, could thereby avoid annihilation from a subsequent flood. For further insight, let us refer to the great Historian, Flavius Josephus:

Now it was Nimrod who excited them to such an affront and contempt of God. He was the grandson of Ham, the son of Noah, a bold man, and of great strength of hand. He persuaded them not to ascribe to God as if it was through his means they were happy, but to believe that was their own courage which procured that happiness. He also gradually changed the government into tyranny, seeing no other way of turning men from the fear of God, but to bring them into a constant dependence upon his power. He also said he would be revenged on God, if he should have a mind to drown the world again; for that he would build a tower too high for the waters to be able to reach and that he would avenge himself on God for destroying their forefathers.”
– Flavius Josephus

Nimrod desired self-preservation, whilst simultaneously distancing himself from God’s authority. The Midrash (Rabbinical writings) also describes the tower of Babel, built on tall columns designed to protect it from another divine flood. Notice also, a ‘city’ (not just a tower), was to serve as a foundation for Nimrod’s rebellious empire.

Tower of Babel– Built high enough to avoid another flood?

And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So, the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore, is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad
upon the face of all the earth.”
– Genesis 11:6-9

As all men spoke one language in Nimrod’s day; communication was at its zenith. With the technology available today, everyone can communicate once more, as was the case in antiquity. ‘Google translate’ is now able to translate 108 languages by typing into an app on our cellphone. Most phones also have a ‘translate by speech’ feature. Whatever barriers God put in place by separating languages, are now being offset with advances in technology. God knew the capability of man if he was unified in mind and speech. The world is presently becoming more and more ubiquitous, seeking a return to one language and one, ‘hive mind.’

The destruction of the Tower of Babel

Who was Nimrod and what did he become?

And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the
mighty hunter before the Lord.”
– Genesis 10:8–9

In his research for the Shinar Directive, Dr. Michael Lake presents a word study of the term, ‘he began to be.’ The Hebrew word is chalal, which means to, ”profane, defile or pollute, either sexually or genetically.” He did so in order to become a ‘mighty one’ which is the Hebrew term gibborim. This term can mean ‘mighty, champion, chief or even giant’ in some lexicons. Could it be that Nimrod became a giant by profaning himself either sexually or genetically, in order to replicate the stature of his antediluvian forefathers?

Dr. Lake goes on to cite, Annette Yoshiko in her Cambridge University Book, Fallen Angels and History of Judaism and Christianity, stating ‘the Nephilim of Genesis 6:4, are always grouped together with the gibborim which are the progeny of the Watchers and human women.’ The Septuagint translation (LXX) also states that Nimrod began to become a giant, “Cush begat Nimrod. He was the first to be a giant on the earth” (Gen 10:8).

Nimrod the Giant (with his 375 pound ‘kitty cat’)

Evidently, Nimrod became the first post-flood giant. His nefarious act, fulfilled Moses’ prophecy of giants, ‘and also after that’ (i.e., the flood-Gen 6:4). Adam Clarke the famous commentator, also cites within the Syriac Targum that, “Nimrod was called a giant.” Dr. Lake then goes on to mention that, ‘Clarke claims the city of Babel and its tower, were ‘built by giants.’ This begs the question, ‘was Nimrod a mighty hunter of animals or man, seeing that he was part human and fallen angel?’ In the sculpture of Nimrod (above), he holds a 375-pound African lion as a mere ‘kitty cat.’ From this depiction, one could estimate Nimrod’s stature to be anywhere between 10-15 ft, not too dissimilar from other giants in the Old Testament, namely Og of Bashan (Dt 3:11), Goliath (2 Sam 21:19) and the Anakites (Dt 9:1-2).

How did Nimrod become a Giant?

The Bible does not explicitly mention how Nimrod became a giant, although there are clues in Historical Jewish writings as to how antediluvian technology might have been revived after the flood. Consider the following passage highlighting a discovery by Canaan (cursed grandson of Noah-(Gen 9:25) and great uncle to Nimrod), from the Book of Jubilees 8:1-5:

And Canaan the son grew, and his father (Ham) taught him writing, and he went to seek for himself a place where he might seize for himself a city. 3. And he found a writing which former (generations) had carved on the rock, and he read what was thereon, and he transcribed it and sinned owing to it; for it contained the teaching of the Watchers in accordance with which they used to observe the omens of the sun and moon and stars in all the signs of heaven. 4. And he wrote it down and said nothing regarding it; for he was afraid to speak to Noah about it lest he should be angry with him on account of it.
– Book of Jubilees 8:1-5

Evidently, Canaan had a desire to seize a city ‘for himself,’ like Nimrod. What else did Canaan discover in these forbidden carvings? Did it reveal vital clues for DNA modification, and the conjuring of giants? Could it be that Noah cursed his grandson Canaan (instead of Ham) because he eventually became aware of his discovery, i.e., attempting to revive the ancient ways of the first Watcher incursion, who ‘came down’ in the days of Jared? Nevertheless Canaan sought to hide his transcriptions from Noah because of the sinister knowledge they harbored. Did he eventually share this forbidden knowledge with Nimrod, aiding him to ‘become’ a gibborim? This was certainly possible because they were contemporaries.

Did Canaan (Son of Noah) revive the ancient technology of the Watcher incursion? (Gen 6)

The Names of Nimrod and his Ungodly Legacy

Nimrod goes by many names in history, including: Ninurta, the Assyrian god of hunting, Gilgamesh, the epic hero also described as a hunter, Amenhotep III (1408–1369 BC) of Egypt’s 18th Dynasty, Tukulti-Ninurta, Assyrian monarch and reputed hunter who conquered Babylon, Sargon of Akkad and Naram-Sin, grandson of Sargon of Akkad. Many claim that Nimrod invented astrology, which was also practiced widely within the Babylonian empire which followed. Interestingly, there’s a Chaldean account of the tower of Babel and global deluge within Babylonian tablets. The “Tower of Babel” narrative also has parallels to Enuma Elish, the Babylonian account of creation.

Nimrod (who never looked up the word ‘humble’)

The Book of Jasher identifies Nimrod as the inaugural tyrannical leader. In addition, he also set up twelve idols of wood, named after the twelve months of the year, each representing a sign of the zodiac. He commanded everyone to worship each idol in its proper month (Jasher 9:8-10). We know of course that the heaven’s declare God’s glory (Ps 19:1) and the signs of the zodiac tell the tale of redemption from Virgo (i.e., the Virgin-Mary) to Leo (i.e., the Lion of Judah-Jesus), yet Nimrod sought to glorify creation instead. Nimrod’s son, Mardon, was later killed in battle and consequently became deified as the Babylonian god, Marduk. This is also documented within the Babylonian tablets aforementioned.

How tall was the Tower of Babel?

With the possibility of the tower being built by giants, we can only speculate as to how high it really was but some scholars have taken a stab, nonetheless. Dr. Lake reveals that Alfred Edersheim (in his classic, Bible History of the Old Testament), states the following, regarding Nimrod’s city, “according to the lowest computation, covered no less than 100 square miles, or about five times the size of London, while the highest computation would make it cover 200 square miles, or ten times the extent of London!”

Arno Gaebelein, Fulfilled Prophecy a Potent Argument of the Bible describes the walls of the city, “were 400 feet high, on the top of which four chariots, each drawn by four horses, could be driven side by side, in the center a large, magnificent park an hour’s walk in circumference, watered by machinery, surrounding the great temple of the sun-god with it’s 600 ft tower and it’s gigantic golden statue.”

The only structure to survive the flood is the Great Pyramid in Egypt, that stands 455 ft. Yet in the ancient book of Jubilees, we have an account of the tower’s height, which is difficult to comprehend, “They built it over an expanse of 43 years, (1645-1688 AM), it’s breath was 203 bricks and the height of a brick was the third of one; it’s height was 5433 cubits and 2 palms, and the extent of the wall was thirteen stades.”

Please understand that 5,433 cubits, using the Egyptian measurement of a cubit, is 8,150 ft! That’s equivalent to 34 soccer fields, or 5 ½ Empire State buildings! Truly, this edifice was awe inspiring, and able to touch the lower cloud base on certain days, if the Book of Jubilees is accurate.

Could the Tower of Babel have been five times the height of the Empire State Building in New York City? (According to the Book of Jubilees it might)

How was the Tower of Babel destroyed?

The Book of Jubilees states that a ‘mighty wind’ destroyed the tower, something not disclosed in the Bible: For this reason, the whole land of Shinar is called Babel, because the Lord did there confound all the language of the children of men, and from thence they were dispersed into their cities, each according to his language and his nation. And the Lord sent a mighty wind against the tower and overthrew it upon the earth, and behold it was between Asshur and Babylon in the land of Shinar, and they called its name ‘Overthrow” Book of Jubilees 10:25-26. Josephus also corroborates the tower was destroyed by a fierce maelstrom:

The Sibyl (Greek prophetess) also makes mention of this tower, and of the confusion of the language, when she says thus: ‘When all men were of one language, some of them built a high tower, as if they would thereby ascend up to heaven; but God sent storms of wind and overthrew the tower, and gave every on his peculiar language; and for this reason, it was that the city was called Babylon.”
– Flavius Josephus

Jewish tradition states the tower was split through to it’s foundation by ‘fire that fell from heaven.’ Eusebius (historian and scholar, 260-340 AD) also mentions the tower was ‘blown down by winds.’ These extra biblical-historical accounts, concur, that both ‘wind and fire’ were involved in the separation of languages, just as ‘wind and fire’ were witnessed, when divers’ tongues visited earth on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2) to unite languages once again. Was this a coincidence? More on this shortly.

Tower of Babel in the Land of Shinar

Were there attempts to rebuild the Tower of Babel?

In another account, Histories by the Greek researcher Herodotus of Halicarnassus (5th century BC), Herodotus visited Babylon and was witness to many of the ziggurats in the region. One in particular stood out on his trip. His description of the Etemenanki tells us something about the temple ritual for the Babylon god, Bêl, housed atop of the ziggarut. Although his visit to the region was centuries following the Tower of Babel, we should pay close attention to what he witnessed:

The temple of Bêl, was still in existence in my time…It has a solid central tower, one stadium square, with a second erected on top of it and then a third, and so on up to eight. All eight towers can be climbed by a spiral way running round the outside, and about half way up there are seats for those who make
the ascent to rest on.
– Herodotus

Babylonian god-‘Bel’ and Merrill Unger’s rendition of the Ziggarut (Babylonian Empire, circa 5th century BC)

On the summit of the topmost tower stands a great temple with a fine large couch in it, richly covered, and a golden table beside it. The shrine contains no image, and no one spends the night there except (if we may believe that Chaldeans who are the priests of Bêl) one Babylonian woman, all alone, whoever it may be that the god has chosen. The Chaldaeans also say that the god enters the temple in person
and takes his rest upon the bed.”
– Herodotus

One can only imagine what took place between the spiritual entity, posing as Bel, and the Babylonian woman, on any given night. Was this another attempt by Babylonian culture to reignite the union between fallen-watcher angels and women of antiquity? Yet in this case, no wife would need to be ‘taken’ if she was offered freely, on a palatial couch or bed.

Giants, Giants, everywhere!

Believe it or not, Eusebius (Greek historian of Christianity) also referenced giants in the construction of the Assyrian city of Babylon, which later became the capital seat of the Babylonian Empire. In his writings, Eusebius quoted from Pseudo-Eupolemus (circa. 150 BC), stating, “The Assyrian city of Babylon was first founded by those who escaped the Flood. They were giants, and they built the tower well known in history. When the tower was destroyed by God’s power, these giants were scattered over the whole earth.”

There are even historical reports of Giants being scattered throughout the nations, following a great deluge in Mayan culture, Hindu culture, and Indian culture, amongst others. Here’s but one quote from the Central American chronicles (provided by Douglas Van Dorn, whom we thank for his exhaustive research in this area).

“A Flood tradition of the Toltecs mentioned by Ixtlihochitl states that after the Deluge [giants] built a zacuali of great height to preserve them in the event of future deluges. After this their tongue became confused, and not understanding each other, they went to different parts of the world.
– Douglas Van Dorn

Did Nimrod command Giants to build other structures?

There’s a fascinating report found in an ancient Arabic manuscript, describing Nimrod’s involvement in the construction of the Temple at Baalbek, stating, “After the flood, when Nimrod reigned over Lebanon, he sent giants to rebuild the fortress of Baalbek, which was so named in honor of Baal, the god of the Moabites and worshipers of the sun.” Baalbek, is in the heart of Philistine country, formerly known as Phoenicia, 25 miles east of modern-day Beirut. The ancient temple was erected to worship Baal and various megalithic stones were placed in the foundation walls of the temple.

The fact that giants are mentioned in this manuscript, only fuels the speculation that Nimrod was in fact, a giant, and perhaps the leader of giants in the post flood era. Three of these stones (known as the trilithon) were used in the retaining wall of the temple compound and weigh anywhere between 800-1200 pounds each! Some cranes today would struggle to lift these massive stones, albeit someone was able to do so, centuries ago, and perhaps only with the aid of giants, possessing supernatural strength.

Allegorical Parallels within the New Testament

There is no mention of the Tower of Babel in the New Testament, but it does record a reversal of God’s judgment upon the nations. There’s a very interesting parallel, by J. G. Davis in his article “Pentecost and Glossolalia,” observing several allusions between Gen 11:1–9 (Tower of Babel) and Acts 2:5–13 (Day of Pentecost):

“God “confounds” the people’s “languages” so that they cannot understand each other’s “speech”. God breaks their unity, and as a result the people “scatter” (Gen 11:9). In Acts, the disciples speak in other “languages” (Acts 2:4). The crowd hears this “sound” but is “confounded” (Acts 2:6). God “scatters” the disciples to the nations to unify Jew and Gentiles under the Gospel (Acts 8:1, 4).”

Indeed, it’s within this dispensation of Grace, the curse of dispersal has been reversed and we can experience harmony and unity, through the Holy Spirit instead of man’s desire to ‘make a name for himself.’  However, this Holy Ghost outpouring has inevitably set us on course for a repeat of history, as the coming New World Order and league of ten nations will reembody the Tower of Babel, uniting man under tyranny once more.

Is the Tower of Babel rebuilt today?

Did you know that Amazon, the world’s largest retailer, and fifth largest company in the world, recently unveiled plans for its new corporate headquarters that will stand in Arlington, Virginia, directly across the Potomac River in Washington DC.? Scholars of ancient history and the Bible will readily recognize the ancient model for the design: the Tower of Babel, yet its architects cite the DNA Double Helix as the source of their inspiration. Isn’t it ironic, this connection with DNA, seeing Nimrod’s futile construction resulted in an alteration of his own DNA?

Amazon’s New Headquarters (Artist’s Rendition) – Washington, D.C.

Construction on their second corporate headquarters is expected to begin next year and when completed in 2025 at a cost of $2.5 billion. It will include 2.8 million square feet of new office space distributed across three 22-story buildings.

“The natural beauty of a double helix can be seen throughout our world, from the geometry of our own DNA to the elemental form of galaxies, weather patterns, pine-cones, and seashells,” the company said. “The Helix at our Arlington headquarters will offer a variety of alternative work environments for Amazon employees amidst lush gardens and flourishing trees native to the region.”

The design of this building closely follows the rendering of the tower of Babel, in 1594, by Lucas Van Valkenborch which now hangs in the Louvre Museum in Paris and yet again in 1865 in an engraving by Gustave Doré titled The Confusion of Tounges. These spiraling depictions are all remarkably similar to the Amazon design (above).

Reshaping the Tower of Babel for a NWO

Always remember the tower of Babel was unfinished, yet man has tried to rebuild it in one form or another ever since. Surely, it’s construction will be complete when the New World Order (NWO) is fully implemented. Is this mere conspiracy theory or conspiracy itself (Ps. 2)? Take a look at the European parliament building below, constructed in 1998 and tell me whether or not there’s a parallel to the unfinished tower of Babel? Is it a coincidence these stars are rendered as pentagrams in the depiction of the European flag below?

European Parliament Building fashioned after the Tower of Babel

The elites of this world believe in the Bible even if you don’t. Their educational system teaches that man evolved from apes, meanwhile they lord it over humanity as ‘gods’ in their own image, forging plans of despotism, seeking to enslave humanity as Nimrod once did. By inventing existential and imaginary threats, such as ‘climate change,’ their agenda is emboldened, under the guise of humanitarian benevolence. Few realize their real intention is to save the planet ‘from’ humanity, not ‘for’ humanity. Their goal of ‘zero carbon emissions’ can only be achieved by the total annihilation of the human race, as all humans are comprised of carbon and emit carbon with every breath.

We are on a road, which can only lead to one destination, namely world domination by the coming Son of Perdition (2nd Thess 2:3). The church is the only restraining influence, preventing his appearance on the world stage but we will soon be ‘caught up’ (1st Thess 4:17).

We have come full circle in this article and there’s truly nothing new under the sun (Ecc 1:9). I will leave you with the words of Christ himself, “Anyone who isn’t with me opposes me, and anyone who isn’t working with me is actually working against me” (NLT-Mat 12:30).

It’s time to decide whose side you are on, as this gig is about to wrap up.
